A major criminal investigation is underway after six bin lorries from The City Bin Company were set alight in what seems like something straight out of The Sopranos.

The Gardaí are currently on the look out for two men who were seen entering a parking depot at Ballymount in Dublin around 10pm on Friday night. The crooks in question were caught on CCTV hopping a fence and dousing six bin lorries in petrol.

Strangely enough, the crooks only went after trucks belonging to The City Bin Company (the company with the red bin) even though many trucks from other companies, which were just sitting there, remained untouched. Looks like someone isn’t happy with the City Bin Co.’s rapidly expanding business and wanted to take them out of the equation…

The cost of a new truck is roughly in the region of €250,000 and reports suggest that three lorries were totally destroyed while another three may be salvageable.

According to the Sunday Independent, City Bin Chief Executive Gene Browne vowed yesterday that the company would provide a full service to customers on Monday despite the attack.

“There is no doubt that this was a deliberate attempt to try and put us out of business but we are not going anywhere.

“We will be providing our normal service next week. We are obviously quite shocked by this deliberate attack on our business. It appears that those who carried out the attack singled out our lorries”, said Mr Browne.
