Dublin pipped Armagh in a dire All-Ireland qualifier at Croke Park on Saturday, while there were also victories for Kildare and Down on the day.

In a game that was characterised by dismal shooting on both sides, Bernard Brogan was largely the exception to the rule, firing 0-9 of Dublin’s total of 0-14 in a three-point victory over the Orchard County at HQ.

Earlier in the day, Kieran McGeeney’s Kildare turned in a fantastic second half performance at Celtic Park to bring Derry’s championship challenge to a shuddering halt.

Playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half, Kildare trailed by five at one stage (1-2 to 0-0) but hit back to take a one-point lead at the interval.

They were unstoppable after the interval, firing 2-9 in total to run out 11-point victors over the hapless home side, with the goals coming from Eamon Callaghan and substitute Alan Smith.

The day’s third All-Ireland football qualifier saw Offaly push Down all the way before the Mournemen claimed a two point victory in Tullamore.

An early goal from Ken Casey saw Offaly open up a five-point first half lead but Down fought back and Aidan Carr’s goal early in the second was crucial to their 1-12 to 1-10 victory.

Results:

Down 1-12 Offaly 1-10
Dublin 0-14 Armagh 0-11
Kildare 2-17 Derry 1-9
