Are you sick of having to look for seven remote controls just to watch a single movie? Then you’re in luck as we’ve found the best universal remote ever.

Changing the channel has just gotten interesting … Harry Potter might be the only person who can use a wand outdoors and get away with it, without fear of getting the b*lls knocked out of him. However, you too can now use your very own wand … but as a remote control and in the comfort (and safety) of your own home. Meet the Wand, made by The Wand Company LTD.

Ok, so the Harry Potter hype has severely died off, but coming from someone who hated all that wizard lark, the Wand is actually pretty cool, and useful.

The Wand lets you control your TV, DVD player, Sky Box, stereo system … basically, anything electrical that has an infra-red receiver on it. But how the hell is a wand going to change the channel? Well, you use various alakazam-like movements.

You just swoosh, flick and spin the wand when you want it to do your wizardry bidding, or if you just want to turn the volume up a little bit. So when your mind wanders for a second and you realise Jeremy Kyle managed to slip on with yet another lovely family, you simply flick to the right and shazam he’s gone.

The Wand is totally button free and it can ‘learn’ up to 13 different commands via the infra-red sensor on your existing remote control. You then perform one of the 13 pre-defined gestures and the wand does the rest. You can shout Feckio-Offio if you really want to, it’s your wand.

There’s one big reason why we love the Wand. You have to teach the wand gestures, which means only you will know what gesture makes the volume go up and what gesture turns the whole telly off. So your missus has no chance of making a move for the remote during the football. Even if she gets the wand, she won’t know what to do with it. Lovely.

The Wand comes in its own fancy presentation box and needs two AAA batteries to make it work. The Wand is currently selling over at Firebox.com for £44.99 (€53) and in fairness, it’s a cool little gadget. Did we mention the Wand was on Dragons Den?
