Brazilian midfielder Elano has been ruled out of his country’s World Cup quarter-final with Holland.

Team doctor Jose Luiz Runco confirmed today that Elano will miss Brazil’s next match, as a result of suffering a bruised bone in his ankle during the match against the Ivory Coast in the group stage on June 20.

“He can walk and run without changing direction, the problem is the impact, when he puts weight on it,” Runco told reporters.

“He could be better in a few days, a week or a month. We still hope he can play next week but I can’t say that categorically. He is working intensely so we have to see if nature can give a helping hand.”

Ex-Manchester City player Elano had been in good form during the World Cup, scoring two goals in the group stages.
