Michael Essien has been left out of Ghana’s World Cup squad by coach Milovan Rajevac.
The Chelsea midfielder will miss the tournament due to a recurring knee injury first sustained during Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in January.
However, there was a place for Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, who qualified by virtue of a Ghanaian father.
Boateng made the team after being approved to play for his new country by FIFA, despite having appeared for Germany at underage level.
Ghana have been drawn in Group D in what is their second successive World Cup. They will go up against Serbia, Australia and Germany.
