Ireland’s Paddy Barnes won a gold medal in the 48 kg light flyweight division at the European Boxing Championships in Moscow on Saturday afternoon.
Barnes defeated Elvin Mamishzade from Azerbaijan on a scoreline of 4-1 after three rounds to win Ireland’s sixth ever gold medal in the competition and the first in 19 years.
Later in the day, Darren O’Neill lost out to Artem Chebotarev in the final of the 75 kg middleweight division on a scoreline of 15-7 and had to settle for a silver medal.
