Europe’s only drift karting track gets set to open and already the competition is going to be mighty.
The end of the Celtic Tiger saw the end of a lot of small Irish businesses, one of which was Colm Wright’s home cinema installation company. But instead of looking back on what went wrong, Colm followed his passion for motor sports and opened a karting track in Roscrea.
Over a year ago Colm opened another karting track called the National Karting and Adventure Centre near Corbally. It’s this track that has received a major expansion to incorporate the drift karting.
Drifting as a sport has grown enormously over the past decade and Colm and his team sat down and figured out how to capitalise on this.
“We found the solution and actually invented it here. We have a big event on February 11 with the drift karting and it’s already full. It has taken on a life of its own. We’re going to try and market this and sell the concept,” Colm told the Limerick Leader.
The facility is now the first in Europe for drift karting and it’s in association with ProDrift, so you know it’s legit.
And there we were thinking karting couldn’t get more fun.
