Ireland’s very own Michael Fassbender has revealed that he is currently working on his newest venture – turning Irish myths into Hollywood blockbusters.

Do you remember the story of Cuchulainn, the brave Irish warrior sent to fight Queen Mebh of Connaught? No? Well fear not because if Fassbender has his way you’ll be able to see the myth on the big screen in the not to distant future.

Fassbender, the star of Shame and Inglourious Basterds, has set up his own film production company called ‘Finn McCool Films’, and he wants to adapt famous Irish myths for the big screen starting with Cuchulainn.

So, to fill you in, the movie will be set 2000 years ago (which means Jesus might make a cameo appearance) and it will focus on the battle between King Conchobar of Ulster and Queen Mebh of Connaught. No prizes for guessing that Fassbender has cast himself as the hero Cuchulainn.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Fassbender said, “I’ll try and bribe, convince, whatever it takes to try and get the people we would like to have in it.

“But at the moment it’s really just a matter of getting the story tight so I can send something out there that will entice people to do it, so fingers crossed we’ll see what happens.

“We should have a script by July in the summer and then hopefully something to take to studios around September, October.”

So will you be queuing up to see an adaptation of a story some poor teacher tried regaling to you all those years ago?
