Around 760 islanders will have their say on the Fiscal Treaty referendum today, a whole four days ahead of the rest of the country.

Islanders on Arranmore, Gola, Inishboffin, Inishfree and Tory Island all get to have their say today on whether or not Ireland should vote yes or no to the upcoming referendum, according to the Irish Independent.

Only six people on Inishfree are allowed to cast their vote this early while the rest of the island has to wait until Wednesday to cast their vote – which is still a day ahead of the rest of us.

As for the other islands, 25 on Gola cast their vote today, 64 on Inishboffin, 140 on Tory Island, and 530 people on Arranmore.

You might be wondering what happens with the boxes until the rest of us main-landers can vote? Well, the Gardaí will pick the boxes up at the end of the day and escort them to Glenties Garda Station, Co. Donegal, where the boxes will be kept in special secure storage unit until the count on Friday.

We like to think snipers and tanks will be dotted around the station with F18’s drafted in from the US flying overhead, but somehow we doubt it.

There’s only four days left until the country goes to the polls so you’d want to make your mind up fairly soon as to which way you’ll be voting.
