Remember when you were an innocent little nipper? Well, as it turns out, your favourite cartoons might not have been as innocent…
It’s been a while since any of us here in JOE actually sat down and watched a few of our favourite childhood cartoons. So recently, we decided to trawl through a few different shows such as ‘Pinky and the Brain’, ‘Looney Tunes’, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and ‘The Flintstones’ to see if they still had the same entertaining effect.
As it turns out, cartoons get better when you get older. And here’s why…
As kids, the majority of the jokes simply flew over our sweet innocent heads. However, now that we’re older and we know a bit more, it’s clear that the writers weren’t only writing jokes for kids.
So here are five of the best sexual innuendoes (in no particular order) that can be found in your favourite childhood toons… you just have to watch close enough.
The Rugrats: Grandpa’s Lonely Space Vixens
In this episode of the Nickelodeon classic, Grandpa shows the boys his personal favourite tape (not DVD) called Lonely Space Vixens. We wonder what has those Vixens so darn lonely?
SpongeBob Square Pants: Don’t drop the Soap
You can always rely on SpongeBob Square Pant’s to drop in an innuendo or two into an episode. There are phallic looking structures everywhere and a few questionable character names, but its SpongeBob’s advice to Gary in the bathroom that had us in stitches. It’s the ‘all knowing’ wink at the end that really got us though.
The Flintstones: Barney’s Third Head
The Flintstones definitely would have been a family favourite back in the day, and it’s obvious from this Halloween gag that the writers threw this one in for all the mams and dads at home.
Animaniacs: Finger Prince
The Animaniacs was yet another after-school classic for younger kids. However, that didn’t stop its writers from throwing in some X-rated jokes over the years, like this ‘Finger Prince’ joke. Yakko actually says ‘Finger PRINTS’, much to Prince’s disappointment.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Bringing Up the Rear
As with the Animaniacs, there have been a good few sexual innuendos slipped into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles script over the years (well, the years that we were watching anyway). In the video below you’ll find a couple, but it’s when Raphael skates through the ‘sticky white substance’ and says: “Next time, you bring up the rear”, that had us laughing.
