On August 13, Jeremy Renner will hit cinema screens in the latest instalment from the Bourne franchise, so we thought we’d take a quick look back at some of his best work.

The latest Bourne movie, The Bourne Legacy, is set to be released this coming Monday, but it’s missing something that each of the other movies had, that being Jason Bourne. If you’re not too sure how the movie is feasible without Matt Damon at the helm head on over here for the low down on the Bourne Legacy.

To get you in the mood for Jeremy Renner’s latest blockbuster here are five of his best performances to date.

The Hurt Locker

Up until 2008, Renner was just another actor in the crowd. He had some success with small parts in movies like S.W.A.T. and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, but he still wasn’t getting any major roles. That was until Kathryn Bigelow came along with her Best Picture winning movie The Hurt Locker. Instantly Renner became the talk of the town and his portrayal of a bomb disposal expert in Iraq made sure to secure his name as one of Hollywood’s best.

Thor/ Avengers Assemble

In both Thor and Avengers Assemble, Renner plays the role of an expert archer called Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye. In the Avengers, Hawkeye is recruited by Agent Nick Fury and it’s Hawkeye’s ability in hand-to-hand combat and his marksmanship that put him on the team. Neither of these roles gave Renner a whole lot of camera time, but he certainly made an impact when he did make it on screen.

The Town

Many critics claim Renner’s portrayal as James Coughlin in The Town to be one of his greatest ever performances. He won a rake of awards for the performance including the Critics Choice award, San Diego Critics award and the Dallas-Forth Worth critics award, just to name a few. Renner plays a full-on dangerous role as James ‘Jem’ Coughlin. He and his three partners in crime do their best to steal, cheat and rob all while staying away from the long arm of the law. Will his performance in The Bourne Legacy be just as good? Probably…

28 Weeks Later

In 28 Weeks Later we see Renner play the role of Sergeant Doyle, a former Delta Force sniper with the US Army. Although Doyle was top of his game in the army, being both an excellent marksman and expert on hand-to-hand combat, he is also able to crack a few jokes on the side. In this movie, Renner strikes a perfect balance with his character making him both serious and likeable.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Our final pick sees Renner play the role of an Impossible Missions Force (IMF) agent called William Brandt in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Brandt is forced to work along side his fellow IMF colleague Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) after the head of the IMF was killed. Brandt had been assigned to look after Hunt and his wife, however, as we see in the movie Hunt had other ideas. Again, this is another stellar role from Renner, proving he’s well capable of playing fast-paced action roles.

No wonder he’s staring in The Bourne Legacy so…
