People along the east of the country are being told to expect torrential rain and possibly some localised flooding as heavy rain makes it’s way across the south.

Yesterday we reported that Met Eireann had forecast between 25mm to 50mm of rainfall over a 36 hour period. So far this morning we’ve only received a light soaking but people are being warned that the worst is yet to come.

The AA has also warned motorists not to drive into water if they’re not sure how deep it is. According to a spokesman for Dublin City Council, the predicted rainfall shouldn’t be as bad as the torrential downpour that caused the Dundrum Town floods last year.

“Gullies and river screens in flood-prone areas are being cleaned and monitored during the warning period,” it said.

“Owners of premises that consider themselves at risk of flooding are also advised to make provision to defend their own premises.”

Furthermore, the Gardaí are urging motorists to take it handy during the heavy rain.

“As driving conditions are expected to be challenging, possible local flooding, we are asking motorists to reduce their speed,” a spokesman for the Gardaí said.

So if you’re out and about in the heavy rain, make sure to stay safe and don’t push your luck.
