Jesse Ryder, who played on the Irish Cricket Team back in 2007, is currently fighting for his life following an assault in Christchurch suburb of Merivale.
Two men have been charged by New Zealand police following an assault on Ryder that left him knocked out and in need of urgent medical attention. According to police, Ryder was attacked twice in quick succession.

“At the moment we have a reasonably clear picture of what has taken place… but we don’t know the full ins and outs of why this has occurred,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Archer.
Thankfully, there are signs of recovery as the cricketer’s manager, Aaron Klee, said he was doing “a lot better” but still in a serious condition.
“They are assessing his coma at the moment and when the right time will be to bring him out of the coma,” he said.
According to reports, Ryder is now in a stable condition, but still needs support breathing as his lungs were injured in the assault.
