Former Irish international goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has told of his gratitude to Sheffield United for saving his professional football career.
Kenny returned to action on Saturday after completing a nine-month suspension for testing positive for the banned substance ephedrine.
“I owe the club my career because you don’t know what could have happened,” said the 31-year-old.
“Another club might not have gone the same route. But everybody has stood by me and I can’t repay them enough.”
Kenny failed a routine drug test after Sheffield United’s Championship play-off semi-final win over Preston in July 2009 and later admitted the Football Association charge, claiming he had taken tablets to fight a chest infection.
