Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster is on the verge of joining Birmingham City in a £6 million transfer deal.
Foster is expected to attend a medical with Briminghan today and seal the deal following an agreed fee between the clubs.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson gave the 27-year-old an opportunity to prove himself as Edwin van der Sar’s successor at the beginning of the season during a two-month period while the Dutchman was out of action with injury.
Foster disappointed for the Reds, making a series of blunders in important matches, and Ferguson has decided to offload his back-up ‘keeper to Alex McLeish.
Foster has featured as England’s number one against Belarus and Brazil in the run-up to the World Cup, and made the provisional World Cup squad, but it is unlikely that Fabio Capello will name him in the squad to travel to South Africa.
