Galway edged past Offaly in a thrilling Leinster SHC semi-final replay on Saturday evening.

The Tribesmen were expected to ease their way past the challenge of the Faithful County second time around having gotten out of jail in the first meeting at Croke Park six days previously.

However, despite opening up an eight-point interval lead through goals from Damien Hayes and Joe Canning, and leading by ten at one stage early in the second half, Galway were pegged back again by a rousing Offaly comeback.

Offaly netted twice through Ger Healion and Joe Bergin to level and both sides led in the final ten minutes before Canning and Ger Farragher struck injury time points to lead Galway to victory.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Carlow stunned Laois in the All-Ireland hurling qualifiers at Dr Cullen Park.

The favourites led by one as the clock ticked towards the 70 minutes but Carlow levelled through Craig Doyle and Denis Murphy hit the injury time winner to send his side through to a meeting with Antrim.

Saturday’s hurling results:

Carlow 1-19 Laois 3-12
Galway 3-17 Offaly 2-18
