Galway Races Day 4 – as it happened

Graham Lee rode Overturn to victory in the Galway Hurdle on a brilliant Ladies Day in Ballybrit. Here's how it all went down.

JOE

1813:

Well the last was one for the outsider backers. Happy to see Carrigmacogue pinched third at 25/1, we managed to recoup a fewquid. Ladies day was a good one, now for Ladies night. Enjoy.

1811:

6.05 Galway – Result

1. Coronea Lilly 33/1
2. Presenting Nama 50/1
3. Carrigmacogue 25/1

1743:
I’ve found the attheraces girls for you
1740:

The lucky last is on the way at Galway and after the results we’ve had today we all certainly need a winner to get us out of jail. The Mullins’ dynasty have the strong favourite, Johnys Lantern, but I’m going for value and Carrigmacogue will give his all. Each/way at 33/1, risk it.

1737:

5.30 Galway – Result

1. Dusty Trail 25/1
2. Hawk Flight 14/1
3. Prospectorous 8/1

1735:

A head bobber in the penultimate race. Dusty Trail pips Hawk Flight on the line. Super finish.

1659:

“Ah Bollix! Its been Lethal for Lethal Weapon!” – John Mulligan.

Indeed it was John, he was my selection too. Although he was in the Kerry colours he ran more like a Mayo team, falling yet again.

1657:

4.50 Galway – Result

1. Overturn 6/1
2. Bahrain Storm 8/1
3. Dirar 4/1f
4. Slieveardagh 9-1

1654:

Graham Lee has ridden Overturn in super style for the McCain’s to win the Hurdle.

1652:

Lethal Weapon a faller!! Overturn leads…

1650:

They’re off and racing in the Hurdle…

1650:

“Here is one for ya. Grand Opera, currently 33/1 and if not then Lethal Weapon for AP and JP – 7/1 Cheers. John.”

1649:

“Not doing too bad so far lads, keep an eye on Fosters Cross for an e/w in the 4.50 Galway Hurdle!” – from Stephen.

1648:

Almost set for the big one, the Galway Hurdle. I’ve sided for Tony McCoy to take another big one aboard Lethal Weapon.

1618:

4.10 Galway – Result

1. Persian Gale 7/1
2. Coopers Crest 7/2f
3. Bacher Boy 10/3 2f

1557:

A highly-competitve Novices’ Hurdle is next on the card at 4.10. Coopers Crest is the 5/2 favourite but I’m going an outsider, Coole Presenting.

1548:

3.35 Galway – Result

1. Smart Striking 5/2f
2. Anam Chara 10/1 2f
3. Kardyls Hope 16/1

1542:

Running late at Galway, still time to get bets on.

1523:

The 3.35 is up next. Miranda’s Girl takes our fancy here. We need a winner and this course & distance winner will go close.

1518:

Jaysus I hope you were watching attheraces just now, five absolute stunners were picked up by the cameras – dressed as sailors. Certainly woke us up here in the office!

1504:

3.00 Galway – Result

1. Separate Ways 10/1
2. Luttrell Lady 9/2
3. Home Secretary 10/1
4. Desiganted Decoy 5/2f

1501:

Designated Decoy heads the market at 5/2 for this one….and they’re off.

1457:

John Mulligan has been in touch to say: “Just looking forward to the main event. Will it be the hat or the headgear that wins today? As for Dermot Weld, put a fiver on ten or more winners this week! Cheers.”

Thanks John. I’d say Weld is way odds-on at this stage to have ten or more winners, he only needs one more.

1436:

We still have three races before the feature event – the Galway Hurdle at 4.50 – anyone having any luck today?

1432:

2.25 Galway – Result

1. Beau Michael 4/1f
2. Armaramak 9/2
3. Adajal 11/2

1403:

My selection for the first, Covie Lad, was unlucky as he was forced out by a faller. Armaramak has a good chance in the next, the 2.25.

1.50 Galway – Result

1. Chicago Grey 4/1 2f
2. Prince Erik 10/3f
3. Forjoetheplumber 7/1

Almost ready for the off in the first…

1258:

Okay, we’re an hour away from the first race (the Perfect Pint Beginners Chase over 2m 6f at 1.50) and I’ve sided for Andrew Lynch’s mount Covie Lad. There’s been a small squeak for him in the morning market and he can be snapped up at 6/1 at the moment.

Dermot Weld is looking to make it nine winners at the festival this week with the race favourite Prince Erik. He’ll be hard stopped and trades at 9/4.

1253:
Tony McCoy giving his missus a kiss after winning the Galway Plate aboard Fingeronthepulse yesterday
1246:

We’re desperately trying to fend off a strong envious streak here in JOE Towers today as we can’t bee mixing it up at Ladies Day in Galway. Stuck in this office with four smelly, over-talkative work mates is a far cry from checking out the talent on show in Ballybrit.

And I’m not talking about the parade ring.

Anyways, we’ll endeavour to keep you entertained and up-to-speed with what happens at Day 4 of the Galway Races.

I gave you three winners yesterday – all at very good prices I might add and I’m currently doing my homework to give you the first of day. In the meantime, click here to see JOE’s Daily Double for some inside information.
