After a dismal spring it’s finally good to hear we’re getting some decent weather, and now it’s being reported that the hottest day of the year is on its way this week.
Later on in the week, Ireland will be hotter (and slightly richer) than Greece, which is something you don’t hear very often. Forget Rhodes and Corfu, it’s all about Kilrush and Killybegs as temperatures are set to sore into the mid 20’s, which will be a nice break from the grey clouds and cold rain.
According to Met Eireann, a high-pressure system is currently floating around Ireland, which means that temperatures will rise from 18C today to around 23C – 25C on Wednesday. According to forecasters, the good weather is expected to last until Friday at least, but then again, it could be pelting snow at that stage. It is Ireland after all.
So far this year, the highest temperature recording was taken in Belmullet Co. Mayo on March 27. Back then, the mercury was reaching a toasty 22.2C, but hopefully we’ll see that number being smashed this week.
It’s been a while since Ireland was hotter than the Mediterranean, but with Malta at 22C this week and the Greek Island of Kos at 23C, Ireland looks set to be Europe’s newest hot spot – if just for this week.
So, all that’s left to do now is to put a hat on that ginger head of hair and to cover up that pasty Irish skin with factor 75 – if you’re looking for a tan that is.
