Ladbrokes are offering 32 local soccer teams a chance to enter a World Cup Sweepstake and if their team wins, they win big money.
Right now, all over the world, offices, schools and clubs are getting themselves organised for the World Cup by running a sweepstake. Thirty two names go into the hat and while some poor unfortunates will get a minnow who is destined for an early exit, some other lucky entrants will get a Brazil, an Argentina, a Spain or a Germany.
Usually these are small stakes stuff, and superb craic, but what if the prize was really juicy, so juicy in fact that you could buy a whole heap of new kits for your local soccer club, or new balls, or nets, or gold-plated posts if you get really lucky.
Our good friends at Ladbrokes are running a special sweepstake just for Irish amateur soccer clubs and five-a-side teams. All they need is for the chairperson to enter all the teams details here. We will select 32 entries at random and hold a draw to see which local team is allocated to which World Cup team.
Ladbrokes will place a €200 bet on each country at Ladbrokes prices and whichever team wins collects all the sweet winning cash. At current prices a Brazil win will net the winner €600, a Spain win would net €1,300 and an Italy win would be worth a cool €5,000. And, for the really optimistic out there, a Costa Rica win will return an astounding €800,000. That’ll have you cheering for the Los Ticos.
And the good news for the team that does finish ‘last’ (based on fewest points, then fewest goals, then most goals against) is that the ‘owner’ of that team wins a training session for their club with Irish soccer legend Tony Cascarino. Not bad, eh?
