Xpose presenter Glenda Gilson has no beef with TV3 boss Ben Frow, despite him comparing her to a horse and a greyhound in the space of two sentences.
It’s bad enough when half the Irish public say it, but when it’s the employer that hired you on the basis of your looks and eh, wonderful presenting abilities comparing you to the long-headed creatures, surely there’s something amiss.
Comments from Frow appeared in a newspaper yesterday suggesting that Frow had called the husky-voiced presenter ‘a horse’, a description that has widely attached itself to the leggy presenter in the past, as it has to celebrities with similar equine features such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
It turns out that there was a load of smoke but no fire, however, as although Frow did call her ‘a horse’ and then ‘a greyhound’ shortly after, the words were dramatically taken out of context.
“Funnily enough, women love Glenda Gilson, who they shouldn’t love because she is a horse,” said Frow.
“I don’t mean a horse like that. She’s tall, she’s a greyhound – tall, leggy, beautiful, big-hearted women like her because she’s sort of been unlucky in love.
“They go, ‘You know, for all her gorgeousness, and talent and everything, she’s had her heart broken too.”
Glenda, to her credit, understood the intention of Frow’s comments, although she did admit to being a bit put out when she saw a headline comparing her to a horse.
“It’s less the comments than the headline. He actually said some very nice things,” she told the Irish Daily Star.
“I did get a fright when I read the headline, but the comments themselves were lovely. I haven’t made a complaint about it because I haven’t thought about it.”
A TV3 spokesperson added: “They get on very well, Ben and Glenda, and if you read the comments at all they are not an insult at all, they are much more a compliment.”
Cheer up then Glenda, it’s all good. No need for the long face.
