Glenroe actor Mick Lally dies

Mick Lally, the Irish actor best known for playing Miley Byrne in RTÉ series Glenroe, has died at the age of 64.

Irish actor Mick Lally has died at the age of 64.

Lally, who was best known for his role as Miley Byrne in Glenroe in the 80s and 90s, passed away in hospital following a short illness.

Born and reared in Tourmakeady, Co Mayo, Lally was a founding member of the Druid Theatre Company.

More recently he had a minor role in Oliver Stone’s feature film Alexander and provided a voice for the animated film The Secret of Kells.

He also starred in many television series including Bracken and Ballykissangel before recently appearing in TG4’s Ros na Rún.
