TDs will soon be able to play with their favourite apps at the back of the Dáil on a brand new tablet computer as they’re set to receive one each by the end of the year.
According to reports in the Irish Examiner this morning, Irish TDs and Senators will be given tablet computers by the end of the year after the Oireachtas Commission approved a plan to buy the devices through a tendering process.
Now, we’re not sure whether the TDs and Senators will be getting their hands on the latest Apple iPad or Samsung device preloaded with their favourite apps, but what we do know is that they will be receiving them free of charge. No surprises there.
However, there is a slight catch. If anyone from the Dáil or Seanad happens to lose their seat then they will be forced to hand back the device. We’re hoping that one of them will manage to lose their tablet and will have forgotten to delete their browsing history. It will be a field day for all involved.
The tablet computer scheme hopes to recoup the cost of the tablets through the savings that will be made from not having to print as much paper for the TDs. In fairness, half of what they print probably goes into the bin.
