A health warning was issued last night after three people were taken to hospital after consuming pills from a ‘bad batch’.

The HSE has come out and said that a bad batch of disco biscuits are on the move and that they could be extremely dangerous to anyone who took them.

Yesterday, doctors had to treat three patients who arrived at the A&E department of South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel for severe stomach cramps, hallucinations, jaw clenching and teeth grinding.

Tests carried out on the three patients showed that all three had taken a drug that contained a mixture of chemicals. Those chemicals included MDMA (ecstasy), MDA and MDEA.

Prof Joe Barry of the HSE Addiction Services said: “While the HSE is aware of a number of people presenting to an ED in the South of the country, this suspected bad batch of ecstasy may be in circulation in other areas. It is important that anyone displaying side effects following the use of drugs seek medical help immediately.”

The warning comes as we head into the Christmas party season where no doubt someone will take the drug. People have been asked to keep an extra eye out for anyone who is presenting the symptoms of severe stomach cramps, hallucinations, jaw clenching and teeth grinding.

Professor Barry also pointed out that the dodgy pills in question had the letter ‘B’ inside a large circle printed on them.
