We may have been a bit premature when declaring Arnaud Mendy’s magnificent effort for Macclesfield the best goal in the FA Cup yesterday.

Certainly, Hatem Ben Arfa would have something to say about it after a mesmerising effort against Blackburn yesterday when he beat a handful of Rovers players with some sumptuous skills before rocketing the ball to the roof of the net.

The arrogant Frenchman often talks the talk without walking the walk, but when he does do the business, it tends to be spectacular, as was the case at the Sports Direct Arena yesterday.

Alan Pardew described it as “the greatest goal I have ever seen with my eyes” and we can think of no better, if slightly confusing, compliment.

Skip forward to 11 seconds in the video above to see Ben Arfa do his stuff.
