Tennis players Nicolas Mahut and John Isner will go down in tennis history and table quiz legend after playing out the longest match in the history of the game on Wednesday.
Frenchman Mahut and American 23rd seed Isner (pictured) were inseparable after an astonishing ten hours of play in their men’s singles second round encounter at Wimbledon.
The match got under way at 12 midday and play was eventually suspended shortly before 9.30pm – with Mahut and Isner locked together at 59-59 in the fifth set.
The previous record for longest ever singles encounter was an all-French affair in 2004, when Fabrice Santoro overcame Arnaud Clement in a French Open encounter after a relatively breezy six hours and 33 minutes of play.
