An Australian hotelier is encouraging customers to stay in his company’s hotels, have a look at their €12,000 Banksy and then try and steal it. Only in Australia.

The Art Series hotel chain is telling customers to come a stay for their chance to steal a genuine Banksy. The unknown artists ‘No Ball Games’ painting will be on display in one of the three Art hotels in Melbourne for up to a month.

Guests are being encouraged to stay so they can see the work and have a chance to steal it. We wonder if they’ll hide it in the ‘staff only’ room. If and when a guest gets their hands on the Banksy, they’ll be allowed to keep it once they can get out of the hotel undetected. However, if they’re caught, it goes back on the wall.

The marketing ploy is designed to be in keeping with the artist’s guerrilla approach, reports the Melbourne Age.

A hotel spokesman said: ”If we catch you, and ask you to stop and put it back, then you have to stop and put it back.

“Don’t steal or damage anything else in the hotel, be a polite, respectful and sophisticated art crook with an eye for a good Banksy and the whole thing will work a treat

“Be cool. Art thieves are always cool.”

Sounds like one of the more interesting hotels we’ve come across. Except this one of course.
