David Howell leads the field after day one of the 3 Irish Open, posting a 64 at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club to finish on -7.

Damien McGrane was the best of the Irish on the opening day, his 65 leaving him one behind Howell on -6, while fellow Irishmen Michael Hoey and Darren Clarke are a shot further adrift at -5.

Rory McIlroy is three behind Howell on -4, Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley both posted 68’s to finish at -3, while US Open champion Graeme McDowell is six off the pace at -1.

English golfer Robert Rock, meanwhile, was disqualified from the tournament after making an error on his scorecard. Rock had shot a 65, which included a 3 on the 14th hole and a 4 on the 15th hole. Rock posted these scores the wrong way around, however, resulting in his automatic disqualification from the tournament.
