We have familiarised ourselves with ligers, zorses, geeps and camas on JOE.ie but have you heard about the latest bizarre hybrid animal? The zonkey.
The zonkey, pictured above, is a rare species. The generic name for crosses between zebras and horses or asses is zebroid or zebra mule. “Zonkey†is not the technically correct name for such a cross but it fits better, right?
The latest zonkey birth has occurred in the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve in Dahlonega, in the US. A female donkey gave her owners a surprise when she gave birth to a foal with striped legs. The foal’s father is a zebra.
The foal has been nicknamed Pippi Longstocking and is reported to be in good health, according to the owners.
