European light-welterweight title-holder Paul McCloskey was critical of his own performance despite retaining the belt with a knock-out victory over Giuseppe Lauri on Friday night.

The fight was stopped in the 11th round after McCloskey caught the Italian flush.

The Derryman extended his faultless professional record to 21 wins, with 11 of those victories coming by way of knock-out.

However, the 30-year-old was unhappy with his performance at the King’s Hall in Belfast on Friday night.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m happy with the result but I am not happy with my performance – it was poor by my standards, but I landed the shot I needed at the end.”
