Number one seed Roger Federer survived a hefty scare to come through in five sets on the opening afternoon of Wimbledon 2010.
Six-time champion Federer looked to be heading out of the tournament in the first game on Centre Court when falling two sets behind Columbian Alejandro Falla.
Federer fought back to take the third but appeared doomed when Falla served for the match at 5-4 in the fourth. However, the Swiss great exploited a few shaky shots from his opponent to break back, eventually winning on a tie-break to take the match to a final set.
It was plain sailing thereafter for the world number two, who strolled to a 6-0 win in the fifth to book a place in the second round.
Elsewhere on opening afternoon, Croatian Ivan Ljubicic became the first seed to bow out of the men’s draw, the 17th seed going down in straight sets to Michal Przysiezny of Poland.
