Apple has announced the first major update to their iOS4 operating system that will bring a host new features to the iPhone4 and the iPad
The iOS 4.1 update which will be released next week will add a high dynamic range (HDR) photo mode to the iPhone 4 camera that will increase the detail and colour depth in all shots taken with the phone
Other features include the ability to upload HD videos taken with the phone to the internet, over a Wi-Fi connection. At the moment HD videos have to be transferred to a computer first before being uploaded.
US based users will get access to the TV rental service that offers ad free episodes of popular TV shows in HD for $0.99. The service has not been announced for Europe.
The Game Centre service will also be included as well as a number of bug fixes such as the proximity sensor bug which saw the touch screen staying on during calls. The poor performance of iOS4 on iPhone 3G will also be addressed by the update.
iOS 4.2 was also announced for the iPad and will be the first major update for the tablet computer since it was launched in April this year.
The Update will see all of the features from earlier updated such as folders and multitasking make their way to the iPad at last and should address some of the tablets initial shortcomings.
iOS 4.2 will also bring some iPad specific feature like wireless printing and the ability to stream movies, music and photos to a PC, Mac or Apple TV.
iOS 4.2 will be available for the iPad in November.
