Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland has reportedly handed in a transfer request due to a lack of regular first team football at the club last season.
According to a report in The Daily Mail, the club’s player of the year in the 2008/09 has asked to be allowed to leave Eastlands this summer.
Ireland has been given very few opportunities to impress manager Roberto Mancini and it lools like he has now decided to throw in the towel with the club he has been contracted to since 2001. It is speculated that a fee in the region of €12 million would be enough to pave a way out of Manchester for Ireland.
The 23-year-old had a turbulent short international career with the Republic of Ireland making only six appearances, the most recent in September 2007.
