Manchester City have finally agreed to sign James Milner from Aston Villa, with Stephen Ireland moving in the opposite direction as part of a deal believed to be worth £26million.
Milner was in Manchester for a medical on Tuesday afternoon and is said to have already agreed personal terms on a long term contract that will nearly double the salary he was earning at Villa Park.
Negotiations between the clubs accelerated after the 24-year old had threatened to stay at Villa on Monday night if City didn’t tie up the deal in 24 hours. The deal had been held up last week after Stephen Ireland demanded a sum believed to be in the region of £2million in compensation, but the club finally reached a settlement with the midfielder on Tuesday morning.
Milner becomes Manchester City’s eighth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Aleksandar Kolarov, Jerome Boateng, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Mario Balotelli, Alex Henshall and Albert Rusnak at Eastlands.
