Irish holidaymakers are spending less than ever before on Spanish holidays and we’re wondering if it has anything to do with the Euros?
A new survey has revealed that Irish holiday makers are spending up to one third less on their trips to Spain as many feel the full force of the recession, but we’re not the only one’s in Europe to tighten up the purse strings.
Irish jet setters are only spending around €600 each on their holidays which is down from last year’s figure of €794. The Spaniards were the only people to spend less than us on trips away spending only €540 each – in fairness, they can sit out their back garden and have a holiday.
The survey comes from lastminute.com, and it asked people from Ireland, the UK, Spain, Germany and Italy about their holiday plans for this year.
No prizes for guessing that the uber rich Germans spent the most on a break away from home with the average traveller spending €838 per person. It turns out that the Italians are the only country to have spent more on average this year compared to last year. They’re currently spending €800 per person which is a fair jump from the €679 they spent last year.
The Irish are spending less on their trips to Spain, but we’re wondering if it’s just because you lads subconsciously don’t want to go because they knocked us out of the Euros. Come on admit it…
