If you go to Trinity College then you’re studying in one of the world’s top 100 universities, however, if you’re studying anywhere else in Ireland then your college is basically sh*t (okay, so it’s probably not that bad).
Trinity College has once again been ranked in the top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings, but sadly it’s the only Irish college to make it into the top spot – well, close enough to the top spot.
TCD was ranked no. 67 (behind the University of… Sheffield) on the list while other top Irish universities such as UCD, UCC and DCU all ended up much lower down. UCD moved up a few positions to 131 while UCC is down marginally to 190. DCU is placed 324 and NUI Galway made it to 287.
Most Irish universities have been slipping down the list as of late, however, the recent standings aren’t as bad as had been expected.
University presidents had been expecting to see the Irish colleges ranked much lower this year due to the record number of students applying alongside the recent cuts in college resources.
So what’s causing the low rankings? Well apparently the colleges’ employer reputation and staff/student ratio make up 30 per cent of the ranking methodology, so basically there’s too many students and not enough lecturers these days, which is bringing down staff morale.
