One of the world’s most famous statutes, Christ the Redeemer, is set to turn green for Paddy’s Day 2013. Now that should be a party to remember.
St. Patricks Day 2013 already looks set to be one heck of a festivity, as Brazil’s most famous statute will be illuminated green for the day.
It, along with a whole host of other well known landmarks, such as Table Mountain in Cape Town, the Sydney Opera House and the White House fountains will all don a green hue to commemorate Ireland’s patron saint.
The deal was struck between Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgins and Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro Orani Joao Tempesta after the pair met last night.
But why exactly is Jesus going to turn green? One too many pints, perhaps? Well actually, it’s all to raise awareness of Ireland as a tourist destination.
Tourism Ireland chief Niall Gibbons said that a media campaign will run alongside the ‘greening of Christ’ in order to help raise the profile of Ireland in Brazil’s booming tourism sector.
It’s certainly nice to see that some of the world’s major cities will paint the town green – literally – for Paddy’s Day.
