Mr Little Jeans, Angel. Download here.
Strange that a Norwegian singer, Monica Birkenes, would choose to adopt a stage name like Mr Little Jeans. Anyway, she’s pretty much fresh out of the Neon Gold packet but if this tune is anything to go by, which in the best possible sense has more than a touch of Debbie Harry about it, then we might be seeing a tad more from her in future.
This one is available as a free download so you’ve no excuse.

Placebo, Bright Lights. Download here.
Alternative rock veterans Placebo dropped their umpteenth studio album, Battle for the Sun late last year and while they have been ignored by many since their second album, their latest offering hints at a return to ‘Nancy Boy’ quality. The last single from their album was almost drowned by the mediocrity which came before it, but it is well worth a good dredging.
Bright Lights is a ray of self-analytical positivity that would boost the darkest of moods. Tell your relatives to play it at your funeral.

Frightened Rabbit, Living in Colour. Download here.
Frightened Rabbit might possibly be wussiest name in modern music but don’t let that fool you – this crew is well worth a spin. One particularly likable aspect of the Scots’ music is that they are not embarrassed to sing with their own accents – an attribute almost absent among Irish acts who often inexplicably adopt a weird Californian brogue when a mike is put in front of them. Fight Like Apes, Ham Sandwich, Talulah Does The Hula et al, we’re looking at you.
