Mark David Chapman, John Lennon’s killer, has had his parole plea rejected for a sixth time, according to the New York State Division of Parole.

Chapman (55) is currently serving a sentence of 20 years to life in prison at the maximum-security Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York for the murder of the Beatles legend outside his Dakota apartment on 8 December, 1980.

The parole board of commissioners felt that Chapman is still not ready for release and concluded Chapman’s “discretionary release remains inappropriate at this time and incompatible with the welfare of the community.”

Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, has opposed Chapman’s applications for parole which first began in 2000. He has served 29 years of his sentence to date.

Chapman is next eligible for a parole interview in August 2012.
