Swedish automotive manufacturers Koenigsegg have only gone and done the impossible: made the wheel even better.

The wheel was invented around the time of the 18th century – or thereabouts – and just when you thought the one thing that’s been around since early man couldn’t get any better, Koenigsegg goes and makes a full carbon fibre wheel – and it’s beautiful.

Koenigsegg’s carbon fibre wheels debuted at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, on a slightly updated version of the Agera R. They’re manufactured using the company’s proprietary Aircore system. So what’s so special about these wheels? Well, the non-metallic rims cut 20 kilograms (that’s 80kg in total) from the weight of the car, which in racing terms, is quite a bit.

Surprisingly, the only metal featured on the carbon rims is found on the air valve cap and the decorative caps. We’ve seen carbon fibre composite rims before, but they’re always just been for fun. These may actually hit the market soon enough.

Just in case you were wondering, the Agera R with the carbon rims can hit a top speed of around 434 kph. At that speed, the world starts to look like it’s melting.
