Tottenham Hotspur are set to sell Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane as they prepare a bid for Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano, according to reports.
Keane fell out of favour with ‘Arry Redknapp last season and was sent on loan to Celtic in January, with ball-hogging Jermain Defoe, gangly cheat Peter Crouch and Russian reject Roman Pavlyuchenko somehow deemed worthy of a place ahead of him in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Despite impressing in pre-season, Keane has yet to feature in Spurs’ starting line-up this season and Redknapp is understood to be willing to sell the 30-year old, with West Ham and Aston Villa thought to be among the clubs interested in his services.
Any fee received for Keane is expected to be used in a bid for Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano, despite the fact that the Brazilian appeared for Sevilla in the Champions League last week, meaning he would be ineligible to play for Tottenham Hotspur in the competition this season.
This means that Spurs will embark on a no doubt soon-to-be-doomed Champions League campaign with the three strikers mentioned above, while Fabiano counts his millions in a plush London apartment and Keane bangs in the goals elsewhere.
29-year old Fabiano, incidentally, has appeared 43 times for Brazil, scoring 28 goals.
