Haroon Khan, the 19-year-old brother of world champion Amir (pictured), is to fight for Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games after being over looked by the England national set up.

Shah Khan, the pair’s father, said the teenager would have preferred to fight for his country of birth but was left with no choice after the snub.

“There’s no future for him representing England as they’ve got their podium squad and development squad, and he’s not even on that,” he said. “It’s unfortunate but he’s lucky he’s got another route, which is Pakistan.”

Shah Khan continued, “I don’t know why the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) aren’t having a look at him, is it because Amir has achieved so much and they don’t want two brothers to do the same? I’ve no idea.”

The news came ahead of Amir’s up-coming US debut bout against Paulie Malignaggi in New York this Saturday.
