A 99-year-old Italian man is divorcing his 96-year-old wife after he discovered she had an affair way back in the 1940’s. So, it’s never too late then.
The case will set a record for the oldest known couple to divorce in the world, even though they were together for over 70 years.
The man, named only as Antonio C, was rooting through a set of old drawers when he discovered some old letters days before Christmas. Hopefully he didn’t splash out on that necklace she wanted.
The letters were written by his wife, named only as Rosa C, and were addressed to some other bloke who was unknown to the husband. A wave of guilt passed over Rosa who had been keeping the secret for over 60 years and she confessed to the whole affair.
The couple is now preparing to go their separate ways even after 77 years of marriage, five kids, 12 grandchildren, and a great grandchild, which proves that it’s never too late to give her the heave-ho.
Maybe it’s for the best as the couple was already sailing through rocky waters. Ten years ago Antonio walked out on his wife and went to live with one of his son’s for a few weeks.
Why did he walk out? Well according to the Irish Independent, Italian papers attributed the split to the couple’s “southern blood”.
