Newly released sex offender Larry Murphy, who served 10 years for the brutal rape and attempted murder of a Carlow business woman, has fled Ireland for Spain.

By Robert Carry

Murphy managed to secure a new passport and driver’s licence while imprisoned in Arbour Hill for the 2000 attack.

Although the Sex Offenders Act 2001 obliges Murphy to inform gardaí of where he is going if he plans to relocate to another country or even if he leaves the state for anything more than a week, he is free to travel.

Murphy, a 45-year-old former carpenter, will also have to tell Spanish authorities where he plans to reside.

It is believed that Murphy opted to flee the country due to the massive media and public interest in his release.

Gardai have been extremely concerned about his release as he has been identified as a suspect in several murders of women. Click here for the full story.
