Leeds fans have yet another thing to be p*ssed off about as a bunch of Minnesota Twins fans recently hijacked the Elland Road anthem.
As if things weren’t bad enough for poor awl Leeds, they’ve only had their club’s anthem hijacked by a bunch of baseball fans.
Now, if you do happen to be a Leeds fan, then you’ll probably be used to your share of disappointment by now. But it just doesn’t seem fair to have the classic ‘Leeds! Leeds! Leeds! Marching on Together’ hijacked and butchered.
Unlike the majority of other football songs that originate far away from actual football (‘Fields of Athenry’ for example), the Leeds tune is an original composition. It was composed by Les Reed & Barry Mason and first cropped up in 1972 to mark the team reaching the 1972 FA Cup Final. They’d campaign for a national holiday if it happened anytime soon.
The song is generally played before a Leeds match and it sees the majority of the Leeds fans standing up to sing it proudly as if it were the national anthem. Rightly so, seeing as it was their song.
Have a gander at the two videos below and do your best to decide which performance is better. It may be a bit of a challenge.
Either way, bad form Twins… bad form.
