Leinster will meet Munster in the Magners League semi-final next Saturday at the RDS after both Irish provinces progressed from the group phase of the competition.
Leinster overcame a resilient Edinburgh side on Sunday, 37-28, and after the first half an hour the table-toppers found themselves 14 points down with tries from Jim Thompson and Mark Robertson.
Cian Healy opened Leinster’s try account before half-time and it was to be the first of four as the action progressed. Shane Horgan, Stephen Keogh and Rob Kearney all touched down in the second half as Isa Nacewa kicked well with three penalties and converted all four tries.
Leinster’s Brian O’Driscoll criticised the standard of refereeing in the Magners League and called for a step-up;
“At times it (refereeing) has been incredibly frustrating. With some of the decisions, players are looking at each other and not understanding interpretations. We need to make sure that is put right if this League is to go forward.”
Speaking to Leinster’s official website after the game, Ireland international and try-scorer in the victory, Cian Healy, said Nacewa’s performance was top quality;
“It was a very fast game and a real test of our fitness levels but we’re delighted to get the win considering the quality of the opposition and the physicality that they showed.
“The focus all week was on minimising our mistakes and there was a big improvement. It was a tough game overall and we’re pleased even though we know that there’s more room for improvement.
“Credit to Isa who I thought played really well considering he was only told something like 20 minutes before the game that he was starting at out-half. He stepped up to the mark and he really showed his quality again.”
Leinster face rivals Munster in the semi-final on Saturday at the RDS. Kick-off is at 8pm.
