Neil Lennon’s chances of having his temporary stint as Celtic boss made permanent have been boosted with news that the club’s board is hoping to lure Steven Reid to Scotland after a recommendation from the former Northern Ireland international.

Reid is about to come to the end of his contract with Blackburn and is available on a free transfer after.

However, Celtic will have to compete for Reid’s signature against West Brom, where Reid spent much of last season on loan.

“There has been no contract offer at the moment from West Brom, but we have had initial talks,” said Reid. “I will try to get away next week to have a holiday and then see what we can sort out.”

Lennon meanwhile, has also improved his case with last night’s 2-0 friendly victory over St Pauli in Germany in which Paddy McCourt and Morten Rasmussen grabbed the goals.
