Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he is considering sending Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani on loan to a club in Italy.

Aquilani has made minimal impact at Anfield since arriving from Roma for £20 million last summer. Aquilani has been hampered with injuries throughout his career and didn’t make his debut for Liverpool until the end of October 2009, almost three months after arriving at the club.

Aquilani has yet to feature in either of Liverpool’s last two fixtures, against Arsenal in the Premier League and against Turkish side Trabzonspor in the Europa League on Thursday night and Hodgson admitted after that match that the loan move is a real possibility because he can’t promise Aquilani regular football this season.

“At the moment we are considering possibly loaning him to an Italian club, but nothing is sure about that yet so I don’t have anything definite to report,” Hodgson said.

“I didn’t want to use him (against Trabzonspor) just in case the loan goes through, because for Aquilani this year it’s very important that he plays regular football, every week, as the number one man on the teamsheet.

“I can’t promise him that here so if a loan move to Italy could help him in that respect it might be good for all parties,” he added.

Hodgson didn’t mention any possible destination for Aquilani, but there is speculation that he could move to Juventus, from whom Liverpool signed Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen this summer.
