Suarez topped the voting, while his Liverpool team-mates Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge, as well as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Manchester City’s Yaya Toure and Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana were the other players nominated.

Hazard, who missed the match on Merseyside through injury, was named Young Player of the Year ahead of Sturridge, Luke Shaw, Raheem Sterling, Aaron Ramsey and Ross Barkley.

The Premier League Team of the Year was announced earlier, with Seamus Coleman sealing the right-back spot after a magnificent season with Everton.
