Have you been on the scratcher for two years or more? If so, you could be getting your hands dirty for the council if a new ‘Jobs Bridge-like’ scheme gets the go-ahead.
The new scheme, which is currently in the planning process, would see around 3,000 people who have been on the dole for more than two years doing odd jobs for the council.
The jobs involved will include the likes of cutting grass, street cleaning and carrying out road works, but it’s not going to mean current council workers are going to lose their job.
The extra jobs being planned by the government is aimed to give additional resources to local councils and reports suggest the scheme will be run somewhat like the Jobs Bridge scheme – although, we all know how well that was planned out/received.
It is expected that around 2000 council positions will be ready to be filled by mid-2013 with the remaining 1000 jobs to be created by the end of the year.
It sounds like a good plan in theory, but well have to wait and see what happens in practice.
