Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, recently gave an interview to the New Statesman basically saying that St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are just “lefty crap”.
Most of you will be familiar with who Boris Johnson is. However, for those of you who aren’t, he’s the bleach blonde, eccentric and often quite tetchy Tory Mayor of London. That’s him in the image above.
Generally, we wouldn’t get into British politics, but it seems as though Boris doesn’t mind hurting the Irish diaspora over in the UK – and we can’t be having that. In an interview with Jemima Khan for the New Statesman, Boris was noted to have said the following:
“I’ll tell you what makes me angry – lefty crap,” [Boris Johnson] thunders in response. Like? “Well, like spending £20,000 on a dinner at the Dorchester for Sinn Féin!”
According to the Labour List website, his above comments are in reference to Ken Livingstone’s ‘long-standing support for the Irish community in London’ and on the Annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner attended by many Irish celebrities and big wigs.
Boris cancelled the Annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner back in 2009, to the disbelief of many. However, the Labour List asks, was there an underlying reason for his decision back then?
They’re pretty harsh words, but what do you make of them? Do you think Boris really does have a dislike for the Irish in London?
